Open Day Success

Since opening the Education Centre at Ford Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in September, the Centre has been kept very busy with Schools and community groups visiting. Viridor has received many requests from interested individuals who want to visit the MRF and learn more about recycling. As a result the first 'Open Day' was held in December 2009.

Fourteen individuals from across West Sussex attended, armed with questions about the recycling process. The two hour session included a presentation explaining about Viridor's Recycling and Waste Handling Contract with West Sussex County Council, the role of the MRF, the technologies involved in sorting the recyclables into separate material types, as well as a tour on the viewing platform overlooking the MRF itself!

One visitor said "It was interesting to learn what happens to my recycling after it leaves my house and to learn what can go in the recycling bin. A worthwhile and enjoyable visit!"

Jen Hake, Education Officer at Viridor said, "The open day was a great success. Seeing the MRF firsthand really helps people understand what can and can't be recycled, even the most avid recyclers learnt something new".

Following this success, plans are afoot to hold another open day, so watch this space! *Dates announced for the next open days, see below for more details*

Open Days

Following the success of the Open Day in December, two more have been planned! These sessions are available free of charge to interested individuals who live in West Sussex. Dates are:

Friday 11th June - 2pm to 4pm
Wednesday 23rd June - 2pm to 4pm
