Trade Waste
Duties of The County Council
The County Council, as a Waste Disposal Authority for West Sussex, has no statutory requirement to accept trade wastes (other than those collected by the Waste Collection Authorities) at the facilities provided by the County Council.
However, a disposl service has been established for traders seeking to dispose of their wastes using small vehicles, which are not generally suitable for access to tipping areas on landfill sites.
This is a chargable service that reflects the corresponding overall costs incurred such as handling, transport and landfill costs and do not unfairly compete with those levied at alternative commercially operated facilities.
Two Transfer Stations in the County accept trade waste - Burgess Hill and Westhampnett (accepts recyclables only). Please contact the site before arrival for full details.
Trade waste cannot be delivered to Household Waste Recycling Sites and any traders trying to use these facilities will be turned away. The provision of height barriers and security guards at the sites helps enforce this policy.
Legislation Requirements
If you are a trader and you wish to carry/transport waste then you must be a registered waste carrier. For more information please contact The Environment Agency on 08708 506506.

Trade Waste Facilities - Waste and Recycling Disposal facilities for Businesses in the West Sussex Area
To try to assist small businesses West Sussex County Council in conjunction with the Environment Agency, has compiled details of facilities in or near West Sussex that accept trade waste materials.
These sites are in addition to the collection services offered through District and Borough Councils and the commercial waste collection and disposal services listed in Yellow Pages and local directories.
The method of disposal for each may vary. These sites do charge for this service and it is advisable to contact the operators beforehand to establish conditions of use (otherwise you may be refused entry).
