Spring start for brand new Household Waste Recycling Site in Worthing

Work is scheduled to start this spring on Worthing’s new purpose-built West Sussex County Council Household Waste Recycling Site.

Crawley's flagship site now open

Almost 10 months on from a devastating fire at Crawley's Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS) and transfer station, site operators Viridor is delighted to announce that the facility is now open again and it is business as usual.

From Wednesday 1 April 2009 both the HWRS and transfer station are back to full operations offering the general public and waste collection authorities in West Sussex comprehensive recycling and disposal services.

A major fire last June engulfed the transfer station and resulted in the immediate closure of the site and a subsequent reconstruction programme.

The original construction team from Ascot Environmental undertook the re-build of the transfer station with its aesthetically designed elliptical domed roof and customer friendly features that made it a finalist in the Innovation in Design category at the 2007 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.

Speaking on behalf of Viridor, Graham Warren, South East Regional Director said "Crawley is one of our flagship facilities that we operate on behalf of West Sussex County Council.  Viridor pledged to rebuild the site within a year and thanks to the dedication and hard work of all those involved, Viridor have fulfilled that pledge to our local authority partners."

Crawley's first customer of the day was Henry Smith, Leader of West Sussex County Council who said: "The re-opening of this top class Household Waste Recycling Site in Crawley means once again the borough's residents can take advantage of the under cover operations and dedicated recycling areas making their visit easier, quicker and safer"
