Go behind the scenes at Ford's Materials Recycling Facility
Following the success of last year’s Heritage Open Day event at Ford recycling facility, Viridor is once again throwing open its doors to the residents of West Sussex.
Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s architecture and culture by allowing visitors free access to interesting properties not usually open to the public or those that would usually attract an entrance fee. It is England’s biggest and most popular voluntary cultural event and provides a unique opportunity to explore some of the hidden gems in English cities, towns and villages.
Viridor will be offering free tours of the state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Ford, which they operate on behalf of West Sussex County Council.
The events will be taking place on Thursday 8th September at 6.30pm, and Friday 9th September at 10am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
The tour will take people behind the scenes of what happens to their recycling once it is collected from their home and delivered to the plant, which was recently featured on BBC1’s Bang Goes the Theory.
Jen Hake, Education Officer at Ford MRF, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone curious about what happens to their recycling to come and see one of our busiest and most high-tech sites.
“We don’t just trash the trash, we separate out all the materials we receive so they can be recycled into other products.
“We know that people are increasingly interested in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill and hope that by coming and seeing what happens at our site they will go away inspired to recycle more and waste less.”
The tour will last one hour. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment by calling 01903 712 620 or emailing fordeducation@viridor.co.uk
