New Worthing Household Waste Recycling Site is now OPEN!

Worthing's new purpose-built West Sussex County Council Household Waste Recycling Site in Willowbrook Road will open to the public on Thursday February 17 at 8am. The new site, which will be operated by Viridor, the County Council’s contractors, has a range of new features, including:

  • Customer-friendly, split-level design, similar to the ones successfully introduced at Billingshurst and Littlehampton.
  • They have resulted in significantly reduced queuing.
  • Wood recycling including chipboard, old furniture, kitchen units, and plasterboard.
  • Improved layout for the recycling of electrical goods with large containers for all categories –from large domestic appliances such as cookers, washing machines, dishwashers and fridges down to fluorescent tubes and low energy light bulbs.

This is on top of all recycling services: batteries (lead acid, car and household), car tyres, gas bottles, CDs & DVDs, green waste, scrap metal, paper, cards, plastic bottles, cans and glass, soil and hardcore, textiles and waste oil. Deborah Urquhart, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy, said: “With the opening of this new site, we will be aiming to divert anadditional 4000 tonnes a year of rubbish from expensive and environmentally damaging landfill and send it instead for recycling into products. “It will meet the borough’s recycling needs for years to come and further encourage people to recycle household waste, so reducing the amount of wastethat goes into dustbins and ends up in expensive landfill.”

“The site will be open seven days a week and free to use – all we ask is customers segregate their recyclables from general waste at home so that it saves time at the household waste recycling site”.

The new site is the latest development in Reclaim West Sussex, the 25-year recycling and waste handling drive by the County Council, District and Borough Councils and Viridor.

It will be open from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on weekends and Bank Holidays until March 31.From April 1 until next October it will close at 7pm, Monday to Friday.

The current Dominion Road site will continue to remain open and operate as normal until the February 17 when staff will be present to re-direct customers to the new facility.
