Spring start for brand new Household Waste Recycling Site in Worthing
Work is scheduled to start this spring on Worthing’s new purpose-built West Sussex County Council Household Waste Recycling Site. It will be in Willowbrook Road, just round the corner from the current Dominion Way site.
The new site for Worthing residents will assist them with their recycling efforts by providing a new and improved service. It will have a split-level design similar to those successfully introduced in at Billingshurst and Littlehampton, which have resulted in significantly reduced queuing.
One level will have a one-way system and deal solely with recyclables.
The second split level section will allow access to containers for general waste, green waste, scrap metal, paper and card.
Building work – including constructing a bridge over the stream in Willowbrook Road – is expected to last approximately nine months. During this time, minimal disruption will be experienced as the Dominion Road site will stay open and operate as normal.
The new site will be the latest development in Reclaim West Sussex, the 25-year recycling and waste handling drive by the County Council, District and Borough Councils and Viridor.
Derek Whittington, County Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, said: “This brand new site will meet the borough’s recycling needs for years to come.
“It will, I confidently predict, further encourage people to recycle household waste, so reducing the amount of waste that goes into our dustbins and ends up in expensive landfill.”
