Work set to start on new East Grinstead Household Waste Recycling Site

Work will begin on Monday March 21 on transforming West Sussex County Council’s Household Waste Recycling Site in Imberhorne Lane, East Grinstead, into a state of the art facility.

The site will be closed Monday to Friday until early 2012. However, a weekend household waste service will operate at the site between 10am and 3pm.

Residents unable to take advantage of the temporary arrangements will be able to use the subsidised bulky collection service run by Mid Sussex District Council.

It will also be business as usual at the County Council’s Crawley and Burgess Hill Household Waste Recycling Sites, which provide the full range of recycling services: batteries (lead acid, car and household), car tyres, gas bottles, CDs and DVDs, green waste, scrap metal, paper, cards, plastic bottles, cans and glass, soil and hardcore, textiles and waste oil.

Before the refurbishment begins, the site will be open for an extra two hours in the evening – until 7pm – to enable residents to clear out any material they have at a more convenient time.

Deborah Urquhart, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience while the site is under construction.

“But I can assure residents it will be worth the wait – because when completed the new site layout will enable people to conveniently recycle and dispose of their household waste, making their visit a more pleasant experience.

“It will meet the district’s recycling needs for years to come and further encourage people to recycle household waste, so reducing the amount of waste that goes into dustbins and ends up in expensive landfill.”

“This is the latest upgrade to our Household Waste Recycling Site network and is part of a multi-million pound development programme between the County Council and Viridor, our recycling contractors.”
