This figure equates to 7.2 million tonnes of food and drink thrown away from our home every year. It’s a shocking figure, and most of us are probably guilty of contributing to this waste when well-intended leftovers end up in the bin, instead of being eaten. You can now help to turn your food waste into energy by recycling your cooking oil. After tucking into your Christmas lunch this year, turn your left over cooking oil into energy by recycling it at one of the county’s Household Waste Recycling Sites. West Sussex County Council and its recycling contractor Viridor have partnered with Living Fuels to transform the oil into much needed renewable energy.

Nine household waste recycling sites in West Sussex have been kitted out with tanks to collect cooking oil, which is then taken to a processing plant where it is transformed into a liquid fuel that generates renewable energy for the National Grid.

Bring your used cooking oil to the HWRS in plastic bottles and the used cooking oil can be deposited in special containers on site. The plastic bottle can then be recycled in the appropriate container.

Cooking oil recycling is available at the following Household Waste Recycling Sites: Billingshurst; Burgess Hill; Chichester (Westhampnett); Crawley; East Grinstead; Horsham; Littlehampton; Shoreham; Worthing
