Re-opening of the Household Waste Recycling Sites

Posted on 7 May 2020

Viridor is pleased to be working with West Sussex County Council on the safe reopening of household waste recycling centres in line with Government guidance on COVID-19.

The recycling centres which will reopen will do so (with operating hours listed on the West Sussex recycles website) with effect from Monday, 11 May.

Viridor Commercial Director Paul Ringham said: “Viridor and West Sussex County Council are committed to working with the public during this challenging time.

“We want to ensure that the reopening of recycling sites is accomplished in a manner which prioritises the safety of the public and our staff and remains in line with Government guidance on social distancing and what constitutes essential and permitted travel.

“This means we will act to ensure that public access to the sites we operate allows for the required two-metre social distancing, and that queuing traffic waiting to access our sites does not create unsafe conditions for other road users.”

Mr Ringham said that, as Viridor followed Government guidance on social distancing, its staff would not be able to assist the public with the unloading of items from their cars. Residents were asked to remember this.

He added: “Safely reopening these centres for the public and our key workers depends on people respecting the rules and only using sites for essential trips. We ask the public to work with us to ensure these sites can remain open. Instances of verbal or physical abuse will not be tolerated and could lead to sites being closed.”
