Recycling in West Sussex
In February 2003, the council leaders of West Sussex’s eight councils signed a new agreement to work closely with each other to deliver increased recycling rates.
This agreement commits West Sussex County Council and the district and borough councils to a 25-year contract that will deliver a recycling rate of 45% by 2015 as well as improving recycling and waste management facilities across the county. The Government has supported the capital costs of the project by providing Private Finance Initiative (PFI) funding.
Viridor is the County’s chosen PFI contractor responsible for the management and operation of:
- 11 permanent Household Waste Recycling Sites (formally Civic Amenity Sites)
- 3 mobile waste sites
- A Materials Recycling Facility (MRF)
- Waste transfer stations
- Waste transport
Branded as Reclaim West Sussex the contract focuses on boosting recycling and improving the quality and number of waste facilities across the county. It will help reclaim valuable materials and resources from household waste and respond to today's and tomorrow's waste issues.
