The lead in car batteries is a valuable recyclable resource and battery cases can often be recycled to make new plastic products.  The act of removing lead from batteries and recycling it prevents contamination of land and water supplies.

BEWARE: Do not empty the battery before taking it for recycling.  The liquid in the battery is acidic and must be disposed of correctly.

All the permanent Household Waste Recycling Sites accept car (lead acid) batteries where special double bunded containers are provided for the reception of them . Click to locate your nearest site.

Only domestic car batteries will be accepted.  Please ask a member of staff if you require assistance.
