By re-using furniture the tropical hardwoods often used in its manufacture are given a longer useful life, and those in need benefit from the provision of cheap or free furniture and appliances. Small ads in your local newspaper and car boot sales are a good outlet for furniture. Check local press and notices for details.
You can also contact local voluntary furniture re-use schemes. They re-distribute furniture and appliances to those in need.
Alternatively, your local District or Borough Council can help you dispose of bulky items of household waste such as furniture. There may be a charge for this service, see bulky waste for more information.
