Changes to how we handle plasterboard at the Household Waste Recycling Sites
From 1 April 2009 plasterboard and gypsum based products cannot be deposited into the general waste or soil and hardcore containers at the Household Waste Recycling Sites in West Sussex (HWRS).
The ONLY exceptions are at the following HWRS, where separate containers are provided for plasterboard, plaster and gypsum:
- Burgess Hill
Fairbridge Way, Burgess Hill, RH15 8AR - Chichester (Westhampnett)
Coach Road, Westhampnett, PO18 0NS - Crawley
Metcalf Way, Crawley, RH11 7XN - Shoreham
Brighton Road, Shoreham, BN43 6RJ
This material cannot be accepted at any of the other Household Waste Recycling Sites, including the mobile sites.
Plasterboard is classed as construction and demolition waste and therefore a limit of 200kg per visit will apply. If you have large quantities of this type of material to dispose of then you will need to make arrangements to dispose of the waste yourself.
Why the changes? The Environment Agency has issued revised guidance on the rules governing the disposal of plasterboard and other wastes containing high levels of sulphates.
Further details on plasterboard and gypsum based wastes can be found on the Environment Agency web site:
