Many different types of plastic are in use today for a wide variety of purposes, including packaging for food and drink. At the moment, the only types of plastics that can be readily recycled from household waste are bottles from products such as detergents, shampoos and beverages (including milk containers).
For recycling purposes - Think! "Plastic bottles only"
- Is it plastic?
- Is it a bottle?
If the answer to these is yes to both of these then put it in your recycling bin - If there is any doubt it is best left out.
All the recovered plastic bottles in the county are transported to Ford Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), sorted into individual polymer types (PET, HDPE) baled, and transported in bulk to specialist recycling plants.
DO:
- Please rinse out all bottles and REMOVE THE TOPS before putting the bottles out for collection or in plastic banks.
- Bottle tops should be placed in the dustbin.
DON'T:
- Don't put plastic film, carrier bags, yoghurt pots, margarine containers or ice-cream containers into recycling bins or banks.
- Don't put brown plastic bottles into recycling bins or banks.
- Don't put engine oil containers into recycling bins or banks.
FACT: In Britain we use about 275,000 tonnes of plastic bottles in our home / work every year. We use 15 million bottles everyday.
FACT: Recycling just one plastic bottle can save the same amount of energy needed to power a 60 watt light bulb for 6 hours.
