The term textiles refers to clothing, shoes and fabrics. It is estimated that 400,000 to 700,000 tonnes of textiles are landfilled every year, worth an estimated £400 million.
At least 50% of the textiles going to landfill could be re-used or recycled.
Charity shops accept clothing and shoes in good condition for resale.
Textile banks are provided at all of the permanent Household Waste Recycling Sites for clothing, shoes and fabrics, in reasonable condition. Good quality textiles are re-used whereas lower quality textiles are sent for recycling.
(Please make sure pairs of shoes are tied together and all clothing is clean, dry and bagged).
