Spring start for brand new Household Waste Recycling Site in Worthing

Work is scheduled to start this spring on Worthing’s new purpose-built West Sussex County Council Household Waste Recycling Site.

Top 10 Reasons to Recycle

Recycling is the process of turning used materials into new goods and products.  There are many reasons to recycle, here are just ten of them!

1. Recycling preserves the earth’s natural resources.

Raw materials are finite. Recycling reduces our dependency on them and can provide time for the earth to replenish its supply.

2. Recycling reduces pollution.

Making recycled paper, for example, results in 75% less water pollution and 25% less air pollution.

3. Recycling saves water.

Far less water is required to make recycled products.

4. Recycling save money.

As raw materials become more difficult to extract and process, so the cost of manufacturing goes up. Recycling reduces the need for raw materials and thus saves us all money.

5. Recycling reduces the need for landfill sites.

We’re fast running out of places to dig new landfills and by recycling we can reduce our dependency on them.

6. Recycling reduces waste.

In other countries where they have been recycling for many years people have become less wasteful in their lives by thinking more carefully about what they buy and throw away.

7. Recycling is easy.

It just requires you to think about waste in a different way.

8. Recycling creates jobs.

Employment can be provided by businesses involving renovation, repair and recycling. Buying recycled goods is vital to provide the market to encourage and promote recycling.

9. Recycling can help those in need.

Many charities and community groups raise money through re-using and recycling. Look around your local high street for charity shops to take your unwanted clothes to or be aware of local groups asking for “jumble”.

10. It’s only fair.

We’re all buying and consuming more and more stuff and thus creating ever-increasing amounts of waste. It’s only fair that we should therefore take extra responsibility for our actions.
